So today we’re talking about self doubt.


Because if we get honest, the thing that really holds us back, the thing that hijacks our decision making when it comes to starting or growing a business or pivoting our career or getting into amazing shape or just developing really cool habits like becoming a morning person or a meditator or a or a strong fitness person…

… Whatever it is, self doubt, is that voice that creeps in and holds us on the sideline of our own life that traps our potential.

And the more we trap our potential, the more our body lets us know: we feel stress, anxiety, overthinking, overwhelm, depression.

I’ve been there and in my own transformations.

Whether it was overcoming depression following the death of my mom to breast cancer, or building two six-figure businesses without any experience, or meeting the love of my life…

Any time I really leapt into the unknown, Self-doubt was there.

And here’s the thing…

When it comes to self-doubt, when you can actually get to the root of what it is, you’ll see that there’s nothing actually there that can harm you.

There’s no threat.

And when you can convince your brain that there’s no threat, you’re free to take action. And once you take action, you change.

And so I’m going to talk about the three biggest forms of self doubt and how to overcome and identify each one so that you can move forward and take consistent action.

Feel good again, and bring your potential life.

So the first form of doubt is “what if I fail?”

What happens if I take action and something goes wrong?

What happens if the plan doesn’t go according to the script I have in my head?

What if obstacles pop up? What if I fail?

And if you get to the root here, there’s no such thing as failure.

Looking back on my own journey, hundreds of things went wrong.

Shit went wrong all the time.

In retrospect, looking back, the obstacles that emerged at the time that they did cause me to pivot, expand, or change or learn something that I needed, it initiated me into a higher version of myself.

So literally, as the cheesy saying goes, failure is only failure if you stop. And that is true. So when it comes time to take massive action to create change in your life and doubt creeps in telling you

Hey, what if you fail?

You can’t do that. What if it goes wrong? You’re dumb.

Just say, failure doesn’t actually exist, bro.

I’m going to go ahead and do it.

So the second form of self doubt that creeps in on the verge of massive transformation is “you’ve never done this before”

We have that little voice. It’s like, wait, you want to start a business?

You’ve never been a business person.

Or you’ve never been a morning person. Or a gym person.

Uh, you’ve never honored your boundaries. Why are you going to start now? Right?

Here’s the cool thing about being human…

We all brains and that’s great brains. All of us are capable of what’s called neuroplasticity.

Neuroplasticity is your brain’s ability to adapt, evolve, grow, change, whatever, based on how you use it.

That’s why you can hear me and understand me right now.

At one point you didn’t know the English language. Now you do. Thanks brain.

You didn’t know how to drive a car. Eat food. Now you do. Your brain can literally learn any new skill.

If you try it, show yourself some compassion. Don’t beat yourself up when things go wrong and then learn from it.

So that piece of self doubt that says, Oh no, you’ve never done this before…

That’s flawed logic.

That’s the only way to grow…

… Expand and your brain and neuroplasticity will adapt as you adapt, so you’re all good there.

Another cause of self-doubt is needing to be perfect.

A lot of the times we don’t finally move forward and make that big changes because we don’t feel 100% ready.

We don’t feel 100% perfect.

And again, if you get to the root of this self doubt, you’ll see that perfection is a lie.

Perfection is subjective.

I can sit here and tell you about why my favorite movie is the best movie in the whole wide world.

And you could sit there and say, no, Julian, Home Alone 2 is the best movie…here’s why.

And we can literally sit here and look each other in the eye, both thinking we’re right.

That’s subjective. So perfection is subjective.

There is no golden bar.

There is no perfect way that you have to be or think or act or speak or look.

It’s all stories created by the mind. So when you feel this self doubt voice kick in saying “don’t do it, you’re not perfect”

“Who are you to stand up and lead? Who are you to start this business?”

Who are you to finally speak up and say what’s on your heart?

You don’t have to be perfect.

There’s no such thing as perfection.

So ditch that narrative and take the massive action.
